USFloatplan.com is an electronically filed, automated system that allows individuals the opportunity to file a detailed trip and have the security of safety. Once your float plan has been prepared and “Opened”, it becomes active. The step to insure that an emergency becomes a rescue begins. When you complete your trip, all you have to do is log in and “Close” your float plan.
When selecting the Status of your plan, whether open or closed, you have the option of choosing an overdue notification time. This is very crucial and is preset for 2 hours. If you have not returned by this preset time or the selected time you choose, USfloatplan.com goes to work for you. We know that in times of distress, seconds matter.
Through our advanced technology, an overdue notification email is immediately sent to the email addresses provided for you and your boat crew as well as your emergency contact list in case anyone knows of your return. This email is sent within seconds of your overdue status and is a request for the open float plan to be closed.
Within 30 minutes of the initial overdue email, if your float plan has not been “closed”, your list of emergency contacts will be notified by email via our Emergency Action Message (EMA) of your overdue trip. Your contact list can attempt to call you and if necessary, local emergency agencies. Your float plan should be forwarded to rescue services and will provide the necessary information needed to start a search for you. The valuable information you have provided in your float plan narrows the search to a relatively small area, otherwise it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.
The automated technology we have built is a unique feature that allows you or your contact network to reply to our float plan notifications in the event that you have returned from your trip and forgot to put your plan on a “closed” status.
The time and money saved on unnecessary searches helps free up rescue resources for other emergencies. USFloatplan.com assists the U.S. Coast Guard and other valuable emergencies services by reducing their over all cost in search and rescue as well as false alarms.
